There are some trips you take that are fun, and then there are the trips that become stories you tell over and over again.
Our Alaska trip was definitely the second kind.
There is just something about Alaska that feels completely different from anywhere else. The scenery is bigger, the water is wilder, and even an ordinary day can turn into an adventure you never expected.
And, of course, if you’re going to Alaska with a group of people who love to fish, you know the trip is going to involve a LOT of fishing.
This particular adventure gave us some incredible memories—and one seriously impressive lingcod.
A Little Piece of Our Alaska Adventure
One of my friends put together an amazing video from our trip, and I wanted to share it here because sometimes pictures just don’t do a trip justice.
The video captures the fishing, the scenery, the excitement, and some of those moments that are hard to explain unless you were actually there.

And yes… it really was a monster.
Alaska Is Something Else
I’ve always thought there’s something special about being somewhere that reminds you just how small you are.
Alaska does that.
The mountains, the ocean, the wildlife, and the sheer scale of everything make it feel like you’ve stepped into a completely different world.
Then you add a boat, fishing gear, good company, and the possibility of catching something you’ve never caught before—and you’ve got the makings of a pretty unforgettable trip.
For me, that’s one of the best parts of traveling. It’s not always the perfectly planned moments that stick with you. It’s the unexpected ones.
The big catch.
The ridiculous stories.
The laughing until your stomach hurts.
The scenery that makes everyone stop talking for a minute because there’s really nothing to say.
Those are the things you remember.
And Then There Was the Lingcod…
If you’ve never seen a big lingcod before, let me just say this: they are impressive fish.
And when you think you’ve caught a pretty good-sized fish and then realize just how big it actually is, the excitement is pretty hard to hide.
This was one of those fishing moments where everyone knew we had something special happening.
I’m not going to give away all of the details because you really should watch the video—but let’s just say the title “Monster Lingcod” wasn’t an exaggeration.
The Best Part of a Trip Like This
As much as I love the fishing, I think what I love most about trips like this is getting to experience them with people you enjoy being around.
Years from now, we may not remember every detail of the trip.
We may not remember exactly what day we did what.
But we’ll remember being in Alaska.
We’ll remember the water.
We’ll remember the fish.
We’ll remember the laughs.
And thankfully, we have videos and pictures to help us remember the rest.
I’m so glad my friend took the time to put this video together because it gives us a way to go back and experience a little piece of that trip all over again.
